ARLINGTON, VA -- U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign today announced that 300 retired generals and admirals from around the country are endorsing John McCain for president. The retired generals and admirals announced their support with the following letter:

"We have had the honor and privilege of serving as career officers in the United States Armed Forces, and of serving shoulder to shoulder with so many of the fine young men and women who are the backbone of America's Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. It is that experience that informs our judgment that John McCain is the presidential candidate best suited to serve as America's Commander-in Chief from the day of his inauguration.

"Our next president will confront national security challenges as significant as those faced by any administration in at least a generation. Success will require a leader with proven tenacity, judgment and courage. It will also require a leader with detailed knowledge of our military and other instruments of national power, and with years of experience dealing seriously with foreign leaders.

"John McCain's entire life has been devoted to the service of America. Throughout a long and distinguished career in the military and in Congress, he has repeatedly displayed the courage and integrity to place America's interests first -- regardless of personal cost. And he has demonstrated the experience and wisdom to lead America -- and, importantly, our allies -- in effectively dealing with complex and vitally important national security challenges around the world.

"We unequivocally endorse him to continue his service to the country as the next President of the United States."

MCCAIN-PALIN 2008 LAUNCHES NEW TV AD: "FACT CHECK"
For Immediate Release Contact: Press Office
Wednesday, September 10, 2008 703-650-5550

ARLINGTON, VA -- Today, McCain-Palin 2008 released its latest television ad, entitled "Fact Check." The ad highlights the Obama campaign's efforts to smear Governor Sarah Palin by peddling in rumors and airdropping operatives into Alaska to dig up dirt. The ad will air in key states.

Script For "Fact Check" (TV :30)

ANNCR: The attacks on Governor Palin have been called "completely false"..."misleading".

And, they've just begun.

The Journal reports Obama "air-dropped a mini-army of 30 lawyers, investigators and opposition researchers" into Alaska to dig dirt on Governor Palin.

As Obama drops in the polls, he'll try to destroy her.

Obama's "politics of hope"? Empty words.

JOHN MCCAIN: I'm John McCain and I approved this message.

AD FACTS: Script For "Fact Check" (TV :30)

ANNCR: The attacks on Governor Palin have been called "completely false"..."misleading".

· FactCheck.org: Attacks On Governor Palin "Are Completely False, Or Misleading." "We've been flooded for the past few days with queries about dubious Internet postings and mass e-mail messages making claims about McCain's running mate, Gov. Palin. We find that many are completely false, or misleading." (Brooks Jackson, Jessica Henig, Emi Kolawole, Joe Miller and Lori Robertson, "Sliming Palin," FactCheck.org, http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/sliming_palin.html, 9/8/08)

· Pushing A Smear Against Governor Palin, The Obama Campaign Has Linked Governor Palin To Pat Buchanan. "Obama advisers and surrogates have linked Palin to conservative former presidential candidate Pat Buchanan. An Associated Press story from Alaska, dated July 17, 1999, stated that Palin, then the mayor of the small town of Wasilla, was wearing a Buchanan button during a Buchanan visit to Alaska." (Jim Kuhnhenn, "Palin's Husband Was Member Of Third Party," The Associated Press, 9/2/08)

· Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL) Said That Governor Palin Was A Supporter Of Pat Buchanan Who He Called A "Nazi Sympathizer." "Here's Rep. Robert Wexler of Florida: John McCain's decision to select a vice presidential running mate that endorsed Pat Buchanan for President in 2000 is a direct affront to all Jewish Americans. Pat Buchanan is a Nazi sympathizer with a uniquely atrocious record on Israel, even going as far as to denounce bringing former Nazi soldiers to justice and praising Adolf Hilter for his 'great courage.'" (Ben Smith, "Palin On Israel," Politico, http://www.politico.com, Posted 8/29/08)

· The Obama Campaign Linked Governor Palin As A Supporter Of Pat Buchanan Who They Called A "Nazi Sympathizer." "'Palin was a supporter of [MSNBC analyst] Pat Buchanan, a right-winger or as many Jews call him: a Nazi sympathizer,' Obama spokesman Mark Bubriski wrote in an email." (Marc Caputo, "Obama Camp Connects The Dots For Jews: McCain...Palin...Buchanan...Nazis," The Miami Herald's "Naked Politics" Blog, http://miamiherald.typepad.com, Posted 8/30/08)

· Democrat Strategist James Carville Falsely Smeared Governor Palin Calling Her A Member Of A "Cockamamie Secessionist Party." CARVILLE: "This is like the weirdest thing that I've ever seen. I can't even explain it. I have no idea why they did this. I think they must be having some terrible second thoughts at the convention right now, it's going to be all about -- it's all about Sarah Palin. They got every kind of story from the cockamamie secessionist party that she was part of up in Alaska to trying to get rid of books in the library and god knows what else." (CNN's "The Situation Room," 9/2/08)

· Democrat Strategist Paul Begala Falsely Smeared Governor Palin Saying She Supposedly Cutting Special Needs Funding In Alaska. BEGALA: "She did sell it. But here's what bothers me more, the press has ignored this and I don't know why. She said, let me quote from her speech: 'To the families of special needs children, I pledge to you that if we are elected we will have a friend and advocate in the White House.' This is the mother of a special needs baby, who heroically chose live, to give that Down Syndrome baby life who is also the aunt, we learned from Kyra Phillips reporting in Anchorage, of another special needs child and yet she cut funding for special needs education by 62 percent. It was $8.2 million when she came in, she cut it down to $3 million. Now, that's a real issue. There are lots of moms and dads who have chosen life and who love their special needs babies in Alaska who now are not going to get the help they need because Sarah Palin put politics first. I think that's a more legitimate fib to talk about from Sarah Palin's speech." (CNN's "Election Center," 9/5/08)

· The Obama Campaign Sent Out "Nearly A Dozen Different Press Releases" Hitting Governor Palin. "Former New York Mayor Ed Koch, as part of his endorsement of Obama, said Palin 'scares the hell out of me.' And Obama hit Palin in nearly a dozen different press releases one day after drawing laughs at a campaign stop by calling her a 'moose shooter.'" (Jim Vandehei & Mike Allen, "Obama, Dems Sharpen Personal Attacks On Palin," Politico, http://dyn.politico.com, 9/10/08)

ANNCR: And, they've just begun.

· The Wall Street Journal: "Democrats Have Airdropped A Mini-Army Of 30 Lawyers, Investigators And Opposition Researchers Into Anchorage." "Democrats understand Sarah Palin is a formidable political force who has upset the Obama victory plan. The latest Washington Post/ABC Poll shows John McCain taking a 12-point lead over Barack Obama among white women, a reversal of Mr. Obama's eight-point lead last month. It's no surprise, then, that Democrats have airdropped a mini-army of 30 lawyers, investigators and opposition researchers into Anchorage, the state capital Juneau and Mrs. Palin's hometown of Wasilla to dig into her record and background. My sources report the first wave arrived in Anchorage less than 24 hours after John McCain selected her on August 29." (John Fund, Op-Ed, "The Hunt For Sarah October," The Wall Street Journal, 9/9/08)

JOHN MCCAIN SELECTS ALASKA GOVERNOR SARAH PALIN
AS VICE PRESIDENTIAL RUNNING MATE

For Immediate Release

Contact: Press Office

Friday, August 29, 2008

703-650-5550

ARLINGTON, VA -- U.S. Senator John McCain today announced that he has selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate and to serve as his vice president.

Governor Palin is a tough executive who has demonstrated during her time in office that she is ready to be president. She has brought Republicans and Democrats together within her Administration and has a record of delivering on the change and reform that we need in Washington.

Governor Palin has challenged the influence of the big oil companies while fighting for the development of new energy resources. She leads a state that matters to every one of us -- Alaska has significant energy resources and she has been a leader in the fight to make America energy independent.

In Alaska, Governor Palin challenged a corrupt system and passed a landmark ethics reform bill. She has actually used her veto and cut budgetary spending. She put a stop to the "bridge to nowhere" that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars.

As the head of Alaska's National Guard and as the mother of a soldier herself, Governor Palin understands what it takes to lead our nation and she understands the importance of supporting our troops.

Governor Palin has the record of reform and bipartisanship that others can only speak of. Her experience in shaking up the status quo is exactly what is needed in Washington today.

68 Days to the Election of John McCain

McCain Nightly Memo
From: SE Regional Offices, Tallahassee
To: McCain Team Member
Topic: McCain to Announce VP Tomorrow

Congratulations to Senator Barack Obama

Tonight will be a memorable event in our nation's history. We congratulate Senator Barack Obama for his historic achievement and for winning the nomination of the Democratic Party.

Nonetheless, as Senator Barack Obama delivers his nomination speech tonight, it is important to remember that there are serious questions about Obama's ability to lead. Many of the prominent speakers at the Democratic National Convention this week have previously questioned Obama's level of experience. Senator Hillary Clinton and Senator Joe Biden have both repeatedly stated that Obama is not prepared to be Commander in Chief.

To hear more about what many Democrats have said about Obama's inexperience, Watch "Remote Control".

Many top speakers at the Democratic National Convention have also praised John McCain. Last week, former President Bill Clinton lauded John McCain's energy plan at a forum in Nevada. Obama's own running mate, Senator Joe Biden, has said that he would be honored to serve on a presidential ticket with Jonh McCain. In 2006, Senator Biden praised John McCain's push for the Iraq Troop Surge and Biden has often stated that John McCain's foreign policy judgement is outstanding.

If top Democrats praise John McCain and believe that Barack Obama isn't ready to lead, shouldn't voters be skeptical of voting for Senator Obama in November?

John McCain to Announ ce VP Pick Friday

Tomorrow should be an exciting day for John McCain and his supporters! McCain is expected to announce his Vice Presidential running mate at a rally in Dayton, Ohio at 11 AM. From there, John McCain will travel to two other crucial swing states (Pennsylvania and Michigan) over the weekend to campaign with his new running mate.

Important Note: McCain Fact Retraction

On Wednesday, we mistakenly wrote that John McCain received 5 Navy Medals of Honor during his naval career. John McCain has been honored with several awards for his military service, but they were not Medals of Honor.

To all who are currently serving in the military, and to all of our wonderful veterans, we sincerely apologize for th e error. We honor your courageous service and would like to extend our sincerest thanks to you for protecting America at home and abroad.

Convention Watch Parties

John McCain will be accepting the Republican nomination next Thursday, Sept. 4th in St. Paul, Minnesota at the Republican National Convention. What better way to see history unfold than a having a Convention Watch Party at your home?

This is a great way to support John McCain with your family and friends. Our goal is to have numerous Convention Watch Parties around the state. We are counting on people like you to demonstrate to the media and more importantly voters that momentum is continuing to build for John McCain.

The process for creating a Convention Watch Party is ver y simple. Click on the picture link below to signup:

John McCain has always said that he wants to run a clean campaign, focusing on issues and not personal attacks. The gracious advertisement "Convention Night" that McCain is running this afternoon and evening, recognizing Senator Obama's historic nomination, only reinforces John McCain's committment to run an honorable campaign this fall.

Analysis: Oprah, Affleck! Obama's Goldmine or Risk

Hollywood hasn't contributed official speakers to Barack Obama's convention this week. But, man, have celebrities flocked to Denver in droves. Oprah's in the house! Was that Matthew Modine just now? Oh, wow, there's Anne Hathaway.

All that, along with Thursday's final-night lineup featuring A-list performers like Sheryl Crow and Stevie Wonder and Obama's splashy acceptance speech in a packed football stadium, will be scooped up greedily by Republican John McCain, as grist for his refrain-of-the-moment: that his Democratic opponent is all flash and no pan.

The Devils in His Details
By George Will
The Washington Post

When Barack Obama feeds rhetorical fishes and loaves to the multitudes in the football stadium tonight, he should deliver a message of sufficient particularity that it seems particularly suited to Americans. One more inspirational oration, one general enough to please Berliners or even his fellow "citizens of the world," will confirm Pascal's point that "continuous eloquence wearies." That is so because it is not really eloquent. If it is continuous, it is necessarily formulaic and abstract, vague enough for any time and place, hence truly apposite for none.

Would you like to share your excitement about John McCain with your community? If so, John McCain is calling you to action. We need volunteers for our Door-to-Door campaign in Georgia.

Door-to-door volunteers speak with their neighbors face-to-face on behalf of John McCain. This is an easy way to make a pivotal contribution to our grassroots campaign. It will only require a few hours of your time every week.

Topic: The Obama Record on Foreign Policy

In Case You Didn't Know...

The foreign policy divide between John McCain and Senator Barack Obama is immense. John McCain has a lifetime of foreign policy experience, while Barack Obama has consistently demonstrated a complete lack of foreign policy judgement.

  • Despite the stunning security improvements that the Troop Surge has brought to Iraq, Barack Obama still refuses to admit that the Surge was a success. Meanwhile, Oba ma's new running mate, Senator Joe Biden, has repeatedly praised John McCain's early call for sending more troops to Iraq.

  • Senator Barack Obama has said that he would meet unconditionally with leaders like Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and other leaders of state sponsors of terror. The fact that Barack Obama would even consider meeting with Ahmadinejad demonstrates how naive and unknowledgeable Obama is about foreign policy. Both John McCain and Senator Joe Biden have criticized Obama on this matter.

  • Senator Obama has demonstrated a complete disinterest in foreign policy matters. Barack Obama's running mate, Senator Joe Biden, criticized Obama for being absent from the Iraq War debate. In addition, Senator Obama did not hold a single hearing on Afghanistan while at the helm of the subcommittee on European Affairs on Senate Foreign Relations Committee which overseas NATO.

Hillary Clinton was passed over for Senator Barack Obama's vice presidential pick, despite winning 18 million votes in the Democratic primary. Why did Obama not pick the most popular Democrat available to be his running mate? Is it because Clinton has stated that Barack Obama is not ready to be President?

Little Rhetoric Riding Hood

Obama has also promised that "we will get 1 million 150-mile-per-gallon plug-in hybrids on our roads within six years." What a tranquilizing verb "get" is. This senator, who has never run so much as a Dairy Queen, is going to get a huge, complex industry to produce, and is going to get a million consumers to buy, these cars. How? Almost certainly by federal financial incentives for both -- billions of dollars of tax subsidies for automakers and billions more to bribe customers to buy cars they otherwise would spurn.

Conservatives are sometimes justly accused of ascribing magic powers to money and markets: Increase the monetary demand for anything, and the supply of it will expand. But it is liberals such as Obama who think that any new technological marvel or other social delight can be summoned into existence by a sufficient appropriation. Once they thought "model cities" could be, too.

Where will the electricity for these million cars come from? Not nuclear power (see above). And not anywhere else, if Obama means this: "I will set a hard cap on all carbon emissions at a level that scientists say is necessary to curb global warming -- an 80 percent reduction by 2050."

Mr. Biden's unsuccessful 2008 presidential campaign and his still-pending race to be re-elected to the U.S. Senate in Delaware, according to the records, collected another $86,000 from lobbyists this year. The senator's political action committee, Unite Our States, also received $120,500 from lobbyists this year, the records show.
